The north of Chile, with an expansion of almost 2000 kilometers, is a territory that amazes travelers for its dimensions. The desert, which escapes from being a monotonous place, is shown as a varied and irregular landscape, where the presence of man is scarce. The Atacama Desert is known for being the most arid desert in the world, a characteristic that has made it one of the most important tourist destinations in Chile. The ports of Arica, Iquique and Antofagasta, or the mining cities of Calama and Copiapó, are some of the starting points to begin exploring the northern zone. The most popular destination is undoubtedly San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis in the middle of the desert, surrounded by salt lakes with striking flamingos, steaming geysers and the mystical Moon Valley.
